My website resides on my e:\ drive and I have created a virtual directory in IIS called propport containg the whole of theweb site propertyportal.com.  I have given the virtual directory full permissions and yet cannot connect.

See the image below - all the suggested settings are obscured by a scroll bar that takes up the single row of the setting.  Can you help?

On a related point, my ISP prefers me to publish my databases to a folder called db alongside my root www folder.  Is this an issue as clearly your database is contained within the data/database folder residing in my www root.  Can the config file be reconfigured?  If so how?

Below is the current error encountered whilst trying to set up the default configuration.

I am unclear on a vital point as well.  Am I supposed to be connecting to my local database all the time and administering that, and then publishing the database, or am I suppossed to be accessing the remote database?  I don't understand why your installation page seems to be quoting both the path to the remote database as well as telling me how to connect locally.  Please unconfuse me!

1st, I need to know what appliation this refers to.

2nd, I need info on the server, what is it running?
XP, 2000, 2003 Server ??

The database can be in ANY folder you like.

As for all those example connections strings fialing to generate I would suspect some sort of erro is occuring. Perhpas parent paths are disabled on the server.

You upload the asp scripts and database to the web server. You connect to the database file there, not locally. (To be real clear a person can install everything locally but in that case they would be connecting to the local database.. I don't support local installations but a lot of people do them for development and testing reasons... I dont support them because I only support installation of the application on professionally set up commerical server)

I need a lot more info to help you... answering the questions above is a start.

I can not unconfuse you yet as most of what you have told me currently confuses me.

Sorry for the delay in replying.

ASPBanner  & Windows 2003 server

I have installed your files in the default location you suggest (www.propertyportal.com/aspbanner and www.propertyportal.com/data )

I normally publish my databases to db/ located beneath the root.  Is it safe to have the database in your default location?

Please let me know what further information you require.

Regards, Andrew

I get this error message:

The following directory on the webserver and all of the folders within it need (R,W,X,D) Permissions set for the anonymous webserver account. These permissions can generally only be set by your hosting company.

However, I have checked with the hosting company and all these permissions ARE set so I am mystified!

there is nothing wrong with connecting to the database in the location you usually use before your www root..

defintely try that.. put the /mdb file.. adjust the connection string accordingly... if you have databases there already and they work then you should be able to get this working as well..

I got the product working by editing the connection string in the propertyportal.com/data/config/aspbanner_unlimited_config.as p file.  Hope this was correct because everything seems to be working now.......except for clicks!  However it only worked if I kept everything in the default location.  If I moved the database only to my preferred db location, some saves did not work and I would get a 500 error.

If I want to try again with the db in my preferred location, what do I have to edit to make everything work?  Do I have to move the whole data folder and sub folders to my preferred location?

Thanks.

Don't get that.  It is in the hosting company prepared folder that works perfectly for all my other databases!
