My compliments on this app - installation and customization has been an absolute breeze.  Only one issue - when editing an existing photo description, absolutely nothing changes.   I'm wondering if this could possibly be a permissions issue with the directory that contains the .txt description file, but I have no problem adding new descriptions, uploading and/or deleting photos, and all are in that same directory.  Suggestions?  Thanks.

ok, so I been thinking.. if you can make a description but not edit.. it is definetly got to be some sort of permissions issue... its it your server... how were permission set.. what permissions were given to the folder ?

I am thinking maybe you need modify permissions but I am not really sure..

I'm not 100% sure this is it, but I've had odd problems with this host and permissions to edit .txt files using that scripting file system object.  I wanted to check with you first to see if there was possibly something else going on before I went down the host/permissions route.  Thanks - do you want me to post the end resolution?

yes... please do

as far as writing to text files goes I would think read and delete permissions for the anonymous webserver account would be enough..

I can tell you that this is the 1st time anyone has brought this up so chances are it is your host especially if you have noticed the trouble before..

Have you ever tried some simple tests... like taking some examples from www.aspin.com and testing editing an existing a text file under the most simple of scenario ? That would probably be a good start.

If you ever need a nice host for asp..  www.1and1.com and www.alentus.com are the ones I recommend

Yep, it was the permissions.  As a test, I changed the .txt file paths in the edit_pic_desc.asp & save_pic_desc.asp files to another directory I'm using for another app that also uses the .txt file system object on this site and all worked fine.

I had pretty much this same problem when I set this other app up up a few months ago, and ended up needing the host to manually set the permissions to allow for editing (creating and deleting is no problem for some reason, but editing is) - apparently, it's some flaw in their web control panel that hosting customers have to use to set permissions.  Host is Hostway - generally a pretty good host, but permissions are always an issue with them.
