Unfortunatly my client is using EarthLink as a host and will not change.

I have been on the phone with their support to change the permissions. They swear everything is setup correctly, yet I am still getting the error:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x4c64 Thread 0x2700 DBC 0x1adf034 Jet'.

D:\WEBS\BERIGR\PASSWORD_ADMIN\../scripts/populate_config_var iables_inc.asp, line 11

I am using a DNSless connection and used the script to generate the path.
The last encouter I had with them the tech said that he can not guarentee anything to work unless the database is in the /data/ folder and not in a subfolder. I told him that was ridiculous and to set the permissions on the subfolders as well. He said they were set but he still could not guarentee anything, then he went on to explain how to move a file on the server, thanks EarthLink. -.-

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Ya, places like that really suck.. too big for their own good as far as hosting people using things like active server pages

I can look tommoro if you want... PM me site access info.. if there is a control panel that may be helpful too.

Also, if we are talking about ASPProtect. (I think we are but you didnt say)

You can put the database ".mdb file" anywhere you want..

Oh sorry, yes I am speaking about ASPProtect.

I tryed moving the database to /data/ and changing the string in dataconn_inc.asp and I'm getting the same error. I assume it's them but I'm new to ASP so I want to be sure.

I'll PM you the site info. Thank you so much for your help. :)

ok,

if you feel like it you can also download ASPTest from www.cjwsoft.com

it's sole purpose is to learn how to create a working data connection under the most simple circumstances

all fixed..

I had time to go in now so I did...

the problem was this...

Our pals at Earthlink have VERY outdated ODBC/MDAC drivers on that server.

The 2002 version of the database therefore can't be connected to.. I connected to a 2000 version of the Access Database and everything is working fine.

The app will run just as well either way but if I were you I would call and bitch them out. LOL  but that's just me
