Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 5 (Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)).

/ASPProtect/scripts/populate_config_variables_inc.asp, line 11

Do you think this an error because permissions aren't set up correctly?

I've never seen that one before... It says the driver cant be loaded

that is like a major low level issue on the server regarding the odbc drivers...

on a properlly set up server something like that should not be happening.. this guy found a fix but what he did really should not have been necessary unless he 1st messed something up or played with permissions he shouldnt have

It is  hosted through  and on a 2003 server.  I made the entire folder and subfiles read/write/execute. I cannot get this error to go away and I have no idea what is causing it.

did you read through the links I sent... they say to give the actual dll permissions

odbc*35.dll

But really you have messed things up on your server if your even getting that error at all.. in the 8 years I have been dealing with ASP and IIS I have never seen that error or had anyone ask about it..

I suppose you could give every dll in the windows folder with ODBC in its name full permissions for the internet guest or everyone accounts.. but really I'd advise starting from scratch setting the server and IIS up cause it sounds like things are pretty boned up

You also try installing the latest MDAC drivers from Microsoft.. that may fix the issue.

I thought I'd try a reinstall of the files. Immediately after I trasfered the files to the server I attempted to run get_me_in.asp just to see if it would give me the same error message. I expected a different one but received the same. I have reset all permissions and all files have been newly uploaded... Same error that makes no sense to me. Do you have any database testing scripts. Just to see if code can actually access the set up db? Although, apparently this is not a database problem. It is something else, is this correct?

its not the asp code. its not a problem with the database..

copying new files in will make no difference what-so-ever

In my opinion it is 100% a problem with your server setup/mdac drivers/default permissions being messed with too much/incorrect something or other... etc etc etc

I cant really tell you more than that... try to get some of the free asp applications from www.aspin.com working. I am sure you will run into the same issues on your server when you try to connect to the databases from asp code.

If I could help you I could but not having a properly setup server is outside the scope of my support.  Quite frankly I am not your system administrator and I am not in the business of teaching people how to set up their servers. Certain low level things just need to work. Before that happens the code I provide cannot do its thing.  You may not like that but that is where I stand on this. Having a professionaly and properly setup server is a must.

I mean go get a 10.00/month hosting account at www.alentus.com or www.1and1.com if you can't set your server up correctly. The you'll have no problems running asp code that accesses a database.

You got low level issues on your server. You have to correct that.

I appritiate your help greatly. I've begun working with the support team of my webhost. As I do agree it is a server setup problem. And, no I haven't been able to get any other asp db scripts working either. I'm hosted through www.crystaltech.com btw.

ok, the way you were talking it really sounded like it was your server.

Your gonna have to get those guys to figure out the problem If it isn't your server it is out of your control. Your not going to be able to correct that.

You're paying to host asp applications with them after all.
