I'm successfully using ASPProtect V7 full to control access to a website. Now I'd like to add a Webwiz forum but I'd prefer users didn't have to re-register & log-in a second time just to use the forum.

I see you use this excellent forum software too; any ideas how I might combine the two?

Many thanks in advance

Hugh

Without writing a book on this subject which I totally could :)

Unless you are expert in all things ASP and are using SQL Server this is a fairly difficult thing to undertake.

I'll just post an answer I gave another guy a while back in an email...

Forums integrated into the user database. That is always an iffy topic and never an easy thing to do. Trouble is none of the forums make it easy to use a different user database and also my application doesn't make it possible to use a different user database. This usually means a lot of code editing and database work to try and integrate things like that. (Different password encryption or hashing used causes major issues, etc) I nightmare so to speak and it's different for every situation. You can also forget about using periodic updates to either system as it will mess up any changes you make to get things working together. It's the kind of project I probably don't want to get involved with. :) I always wanted to write forum software to work with ASPProtect but the fact is the ones already out there are just awesome and I would never be able to make anything anywhere near as nice nor do I have the time. Forums are often prone to attacks and html/code abuse issues and those people have spent years tweaking their forum software to work well. I like web wiz forums if you go looking for one. It is probably the easiest to tie into ASPProtect because all the others have too different of a Database Structure and I actually know how to change it to use the same encryption code I use for the password fields but that is about all I know.

Thanks Chris,

I'm happy working with ASP and can get help with SQL but if it scares you well it'll leave me a nervous wreck,  so I'll stop just there I think!

TIme to go and scratch my head for another way around this.

ya, I mean I could do it for one of my own custom projects but even I would have 20+ hours of messing around in it until the bugs were all gone...

It's just a real pain to do something like that
