I am planning a migration of my client's site which uses ASPBanner from one ASP provider to another (GoDaddy) and from a hosted SQL 2000 solution to a hosted SQL 2005 solution (GoDaddy).
As a test, I tried seeing if I could simply migrate the DB first, leaving the ASP site in tact. Not being the admin of either server, I'm fairly limited in my ability to get data from one to another. I was finally able to do an Import operation from the old to the new, but I don't think that copied everything it needed to. At one point, new page hits were being written to the new DB, but creating a new user, for example, failed with an error relating to how User_ID cannot be null (it wasn't, though).
In general & specifically, what do I need to do to migrate ASPBanner (the IIS app and the DB) from one host to another?
Thanks! Matt

create the new database tables from scratch using the sql scripts we provide in the extras folder.. text that the system works... then import your data.. that way all the field have correct settings and you klnows it's working before you try importing data..

Thanks for responding quickly! What you're saying makes sense. When I do the import, though, do I need to worry about particular overwrite settings, etc, that may cause harm during the import?
As for moving the aspbanner & data folders to a new server, are there any words of caution there? I remember I had to tell my current host to make the aspbanner directory an IIS application. Will I need to do that again with new host (GoDaddy)? Any internal config files I'll need to change due to new server?
Thanks again! Matt

Sorry, I'm not getting in to all that as I support basic installation for 30 days after the sale... we're way past that point here and you're on installtion number 2 so my time will have to be purchased... (right now I have no time because I'm too busy with one of my restaurants so that's not even an option)
Basically your gonna have to get the app up and running just like you did when you started.. So ya, IIS apllications, config files all need to be looked at.. and set correctly..
Keep your database info.. keep any banners files you put in there.. start clean with everything else (.asp files/folders) or use your old files.. there are lots of ways to go about it..
BTW/.. GODADDY Hosting with ASP sucks the big one... it works but the interfaces are pure evil and they are zero help.. sorry I have no tutorials on using their interfaces.. but even I have trouble setting things up on GODADDY servers.. not ASP friendly.. might be a sceenshot or two in the forums.. search godaddy under all forums..
I'm closing this post..
