Using multiple ads in zone with the following code:

<iframe src="http://mrfood.com/aspbanner/aspbanner_inc.asp?BannerZon e=5&Refresh=20" width="300" height="255" frameborder="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0"scrolling="no"></iframe>

While ads display most of the time, sometimes we get following error instead of ad:
< http-equiv="Content-" content="text/; charset=utf-8">< name="ProgId" content="Word.">< name="Generator" content="Microsoft Word 10">< name="Originator" content="Microsoft Word 10">

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Could not update; currently locked by user 'admin' on machine 'WEB02'.

/aspbanner/aspbanner_inc.asp, line 166

My best guesses are as follows... perhaps someone has the database open on the server, your trying to connect to MSACCESS over the lan, MSACCESS can't keep up because of how many ads are being served, the server has too many other applications using MSACCESS.., or the server this is on has too much going on and too few resources free...

How many banners are you serving per day ? How busy is your site ?

I just saw it happen again now. I can't imagine the site is very busy tonight, but I will check stats tomorrow. We get about 12,000 page hits per day on this specific page. There are 8 banners that rotate every 20 seconds.

Site is on a shared hosting environment. It's running off of an an e-commerce platform with SQL as the backend. It's likely then that the server has too much going on, but I'll check with Mainstreet Commerce support regarding the "locked by user 'admin' on machine 'WEB02'' part of the error.

If they can't do anything I'll remove the 20 second refresh and see if that fixes it.

That error is a Micorosoft Access error.. if the server supports Microsoft SQL you're best bet is to run ASPBanner with MSSQL as well...

One page with 8 banners... that means with every page load the access database is getting hit 8 times.  then I'm sure other pages in the site have banners too and are also hitting the banner database.. I can totally see that all adding up and causing an occasional error..  MSACCESS probably just can't handle it.. especially under a shared hosting environment...

If your site gets more than a couple thousand sessions/visitors per day the best bet is to be running Microsoft SQL Server..

What I meant is that the page has a zone containing 8 banners that rotate every 20 seconds, not 8 banner ads on the page simultaneously. One banner ad displays at a time and updates with a new ad every 20 secs.

set up ASPBanner using MSSQL.. following the basic sql instructions that come with it.. there is a sql script you run on your sql database that creates the tables and fields neded to run aspbanner

once that is running...

then move the existing data from the MSACCESS database to the MSSQL database.. (that is if you care.. that step is optional)..  import/export type of stuff.. microsoft provieds tools for it..

Knowledge of dealing with SQL Server would be VERY helpful..
