Hi, just installed aspbanner, I tested with a Flash Banner and it worked but with out clicks,  but when I entered the Redirect Url Id into the flash published banner, it comes to a halt , with a 500 internal server error.  does not go to the target url.

Here is the URL with the Flash banner http://www.waternsports.com

I set all permission to read and write.  I can give ftp info if needed.

Thanks Vicki

ok, I figured out your issue..

You're tracking a click and doing the redirect before you ever used the aspbanner system to display the banner.. that is bad and causes an error.

The reason this is happening is because you are just showing the flash banner code on your site instead of using the zone calling code to show the flash banner.

Here is why that is bad...

When the aspbanner zone code is used to call a banner that banner gets some important values set on it in the stats table in the database database. This happens anytime stats for that banner and a new day don't exist yet.

So when banner_redirect is hit and passed an ID it looks for that value in the database and adds a click to it... bamm we get an error because it never got created..

(should I have checked for that and handled it.. probably but I never thought anyone would create that situation)

Anyway..

What you need to do is use the zone calling code to display and test your banner... dont just paste your flash code there on your page.

then do a reset on your banner in the aspbanner interface and it should work fine from then on..

one other thing.. you should set the href target value in your flash banner too

Because if you use the iframe method code to call the flash banner the link you click will open up in the iframe window.. and you probably want it to be the whole page.. or a new page..

So set that in your flash banner.. and you will never have a problem as far as that goes...

OK, I think I see, so tell me if this is correct, I create the Banner, enter all its info , save it, and then I go to the Zones, Select the zone I put the new banner in, say #1, and make sure the generate code is checked,  then click Display Banners in selected Zones,  I then get to chose which type of script I want to use , such as ASP or Java, I should copy that script and then go to my Web Page Script and paste that copied code to the area of the page I want the Zone One banners to be displayed.

And I copy the below into my URL Taget Page of the FLASH Banner.  http://www.waternsports.com/aspbanner/banner_redirect.asp?Ba nner_ID=1

The ID=1 is actually the zone 1,  not the actual banner #,  because there should be other banners in zone one that will rotate from the ID=1 Zone.

That is pretty much it. I think I got it.

Does the above seem correct, to you.
I will make a second test banner today to see how it works.

Thanks for the FIX

VICKI

all correct except the banner id you see in the redirect url is indeed the banner id

because that redirect page has to know what banner we're dealing with.. so it can track the click and send the person off wherever they are really supposed to go..

That being said the code that you paste on your pages (that you got from the zones screen) is going to use the id for the zone.. because its telling the system which banners to rotate

let's put it this way.. you did everything right.. EXCEPT you managed to run the redirect page before the system officially spit out the banner..
