Hi Chris
ive got ASPprotect configured and customized pretty well except for the emailing feature...
Im using godaddy shared hosting with a windows iis7 server. Ive called them and dug through their help files and found the correct settings:
remore server: relay-hosting.secureserver.net (no authentication)
http://www.extensionyoga.com/settings_screen.jpg - a screen shot of my admin settings.
No matter which setting i use i keep getting a 500 internal server error and unfortunatly with godaddy i cannot see a detailed error message. even when callin them thats all they can tell me.
When using port 25 forwarding it seems like its doing something before it returns an error and the others give an instant error.
any ideas, suggestions? did i miss something obvious?
Also is it possible to do a one time fee for membership signup without loosing the IPN feature. Maybe i messed something up but when i altered the paypal code for a one time payment, i could not get users active upon payment.
Thanks in advance for any help!

cdosys using any remote email server and smtp authentication is no different than setting up and using an account in outlook or outlook express
doesn't really matter who you host with as long as you have a real working email account somewhere.. by real I mean not (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc etc etc)
for example here is what I would use..
CDOSYS using remote server.. SMTP authentication
mail.cjwsoft.com
someaccount@cjwsoft.com somepassword
and whammo cdosys is sending emails
have you tried that scenario.. it's the best way to go.. I mean everyone has a real email account with some service or domain
as for your other question please start a new thread for that... please explain it a little differently.. what you wrote is not clear to me.. not sure what your doing

Chris, I did like you said and created an email account with my domain name. I then got the correct remote server address and tried it... no luck. I included another screen shot of my settings:
http://www.extensionyoga.com/set_screen.jpg
I keep getting that annoying 500 internal server error and its driving me nuts. is any way you could possibly take a closer look at it for me?

in that screenshot you have smtp virtual server selected which is incorrect
change it to the cdosys remote server option

Thank you for that, however... it took a long time doing something and still returned a server error. I have the same setup on my local II7 windows server and tried using (remote server) and it worked. So now im just stumped as to why it wont work on my godaddy server.

humm they might be blocking something.. to say the least they are real bad option when hosting an asp site
did you find any asp examples from them for sending emails..
perhaps that would help... it might show a working scenario that you can duplicate

if i understood you correctly, i tried it with the remote server option
server : localhost no authentication
got the same error
using remote server option with the settings as above works perfect on my local server, its just on the godaddy that it wont work. Im starting to think that maybe my /password_admin/email_user.asp file is messed up so im going to try to restore it.

Sorry i didnt notice the response about godaddy blocking anything but here is their info on using cdosys: http://help.godaddy.com/article/1073
Im really confused as to where i would use the code they provide in that article but maybe it would make more sense to you.

well, that is ASP.NET code but it's basically saying
cdosys remote server
use relay-hosting.secureserver.net
with no smtp authentication..
The only reason I can think it might not work is the admin email in the admin settings probably needs to be one from within their system under that scenario..

Once again I thank you for your time Chris,
There is another article on godaddys website about using CDONTS
http://help.godaddy.com/article/4221
do you think it would be possible for me to use this example and use the CDONTS option, if so how would i go about doing this?

can't... won't work on iis 7.. CDONTS does not exist on IIS6 - IIS7
Later tommoro I can go into your system and look if you like.. I am sure I can figure out a way to make it email.. I can't do it till after 6 pm as I just took a 2 month programming job and it is crazy hours every day at their facility
I have done installs on godaddy servers and got emailing working.. well I have on iis6 servers.. who knows what those dummies have going on on their iis7 servers.. prob locked down like crazy

Thats sounds great, should i PM or continue this post to you to contact you tomorrow after 6pm?
its funny though because i just went out of my way to upgrade this server from II6 to II7 less then a month ago. When i say upgrade i mean cancel the old server and create a new one because it wasnt "upgradeable"
Anyways thanks again and congrats on the job.

I am actually home today.
PM me the info the info and I will look at it.
I'll need access to the admin area as well as email account/password to work with.
If I can't get it working that way I guess I'll need ftp access or something so I can try some different code.
