Hi -

We have been using ASPProtect for several years (v. 7.x) to manage access to a training event/calendar data entry application, another small data entry application and some download folders.  These applications are similar and have relatively small defined memberships that are fairly static.  We maintain all registrants in the same database.

We have another application (vendor location) that has a lot more volume and at the moment is open access - no login/registration.  We'd like to use ASPProtect in this application too, to establish a simple registration so that we can track usage more closely.

This new application differs considerably in look and feel, in purpose, and in the ASPProtect parameter settings.  Our current apps are limited and restricted, the new app is open.  We have not been able to figure a way to do both with the same ASPProtect setup.  Also, we want to keep the data for the new application in a different database, separate from the other data.

1. Is there a way to do this?
2. Do we need a second license, installation etc?
3. If the solution is too complex for us to implement easily, would you consider taking it on as a custom job?

Thanks for your attention.

Do you have some specific need for a second database?

If not, you can do all the things you described by creating new registration groups, registration pages and addaccount pages using the same database. Each can be incorporated in its own part of the website and take on the shell of that area.

Hello,

ASPProtect is licensed per web site.. now that also means one installation of the database and scripts..

That means if you either more than once you need another license..

As for your big question, well it's not easy to explain.
Each databse has it's own configuration values unique to a URL location. You can't just put all the asp files in two places and access the same database. All the configuration urls in the database are going to point to one of the installations and not the other. It will cause big problems.

Could someone very good with ASP and Databases do it.. Yes, with work on the code and figuring out a way to have seperate configuration values for each location..

As you said.. "the solution is too complex for us to implement easily"
Well, that is probably accurate.. or  I would imagine you wouldn't be asking.

As for me doing the work... as many of my customers know I am not available right now.. the Xperience Forums project gets all my time.. I am so burned out right now I could hit every computer I own with a sledge hammer and become a hermit in the woods...

Of course if you are very serious, are willing to pay my rate which is 60/hour, and can wait until I finish version 1 of Xperience and regain my sanity who knows.. I might make an exception.

I just have to get version 1 of Xperience released.. that is my priority right now.
